About Us:
Jonathann Kuo, M.D. is a fellowship trained, board certified Anesthesiologist and Pain Medicine Specialist. He has dedicated his practice to the treatment of pain, emphasizing a non-surgical approach to acute and chronic pain with the ultimate goal of returning patients to their active lives. A focus of his practice is dedicated to Interventional Pain Management, which involves simple procedures under the direct guidance of an imaging machine. The ability of medical imaging (fluoroscopy) allows Dr. Kuo to very accurately and precisely deliver medications or block nerves that may be the source of pain, accelerating the healing process and helping to restore function.
The practice philosophy focuses on individual patient treatment based on an accurate diagnosis. Dr. Kuo takes the time to listen closely to his patients, and is a specialist in assessing all types of injuries and pain sources. At your visit you will receive a medical evaluation focused on determining the cause of your pain. If necessary, additional diagnostic testing may be obtained. A customized treatment plan with then be outlined and recommendations made based on your diagnosis and medical history. His patient-centered philosophy involves utilizing least invasive therapies and educating patients about their treatment options; whether it is nonsurgical, interventional, or surgical. The ultimate goal is restoration of function and an improvement in quality of life.
Dr. Kuo specializes in minimally invasive treatment modalities for low back pain, neck pain, joint pain, spinal stenosis, and spinal pain of multiple origins. He also treats other painful syndromes such as complex regional pain syndrome, chronic headaches that originate in the neck, complex regional pain syndrome / RSD, facial pain, post-herpetic neuralgia, various neuropathies, and cancer pain. He has extensive experience with the newest treatment modalities such as using radiofrequency waves to destroy painful nerves, spinal cord stimulation, kyphoplasty for vertebral fractures, and implantable pain pumps for chronic intractable pain.

In addition to utilizing evidence-based medicine and the newest techniques available, Dr. Kuo observes the tenant that pain management is often best treated with a multi-disciplinary approach. Dr. Kuo received his medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine. He completed a surgical internship at New York Presbyterian / Weill Cornell Medical Center, and a residency in Anesthesiology at New York Presbyterian / Weill Cornell Medical Center. He then completed a fellowship at the prestigious Tri-Institutional Pain Management Fellowship at New York Presbyterian / Weill Cornell Medical Center, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and the Hospital for Special Surgery. The intensive study of Pain Medicine at three of the world's leading centers of medicine has led Dr. Kuo to obtain a comprehensive knowledge of different pain syndromes and conditions, ranging from sports injuries to post-operative pain to cancer pain.

Dr. Kuo is a board certified Diplomat of the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) with additional board certification in Pain Medicine. He is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, and Fellow of the American Academy of Pain Management (AAPM).
Driven by his dedication to medicine and his specialty, Dr. Kuo continually attends education seminars and conferences which exceed the minimum requirements of maintaining his license, and keeps up to date with the latest developments in the field of pain management. Outside of work, Dr. Kuo maintains a very active lifestyle. He enjoys cycling, hiking, downhill skiing and snowboarding.
